Virgin Atlantic rolls out new in-flight entertainment option for passengers with dementia

Virgin Atlantic has teamed up with the Women Over 50 Film Festival (WOFFF) for a third year running, bringing a fresh batch of dementia-friendly short films to passengers across all its flights. The new collection is available on Vera, the airline’s in-flight entertainment platform, where it will remain throughout the year. The curated films are designed to provide a calm, engaging and easy-to-follow viewing experience. The partnership first kicked off back in 2024, and this latest season builds on what has already proven to be a popular addition to the onboard lineup. The movies are available on flights now | VIRGIN ATLANTICThe new season spans animation, documentary, comedy and portrait films, with subjects that range from older women catching waves in Australia to a third-generation boot-maker in New Mexico, a Yorkshire farm shop, a village post office, a Welsh countryside train ride and family memories of Guyana.Passengers living with dementia can find lengthy films, complicated storylines or rapid editing tough to keep up with mid-flight, so the shorter films offer something gentler and more manageable. For families, friends and carers travelling alongside someone with dementia, the collection also provides a shared viewing experience that feels inclusive and accessible.Since the collaboration started in 2024, the WOFFF-curated films have been watched more than 60,000 times on Virgin Atlantic flights.Beyond the in-flight offering, the partnership ties into WOFFF’s wider mission. The festival works to tackle ageism and sexism across the screen industries, and boosting the visibility of films made by and about older women is central to that effort. The cause fits naturally with the airline’s push toward more inclusive entertainment, and the viewing figures suggest audiences are responding warmly to stories and voices that too often go unheard.Founder of the WOFFF, Nuala O’Sullivan, said: “We’re delighted to see a new season of WOFFF films available onboard Virgin Atlantic. Short films are a strong format for dementia-friendly viewing. They can offer story, humour, beauty and connection in a way that feels manageable for people who may find longer films difficult to follow. The in-flight entertainment has been rolled out across the fleet | VIRGIN ATLANTIC”This partnership with Virgin Atlantic brings together two things WOFFF cares deeply about: championing films by and about older women and creating more thoughtful access to film for audiences who are often overlooked.”Chief customer officer at Virgin Atlantic, Juha Jaervinen, said: “At Virgin Atlantic, we’re always looking for ways to make the customer journey more inclusive. We’re proud to continue our partnership with WOFFF, bringing a new collection of dementia-friendly short films to Vera, our award-winning in-flight entertainment platform. “We’re delighted to build on the overwhelmingly positive response to the collection and are committed to offering inclusive onboard entertainment that can be enjoyed by more of our customers.”
