
The plight of the women of Piddington living next door to a proposed army camp containing 1,200 male migrants is set to be debated in Parliament, GB News has been told. The debate would force ministers to address the fears of local villagers who are deeply concerned about the camp where migrants, many of whom will have discarded identity documents on arriving in the UK, will be free to come and go.Residents in the quaint Oxfordshire village held a symbolic referendum last month and voted to leave the UK in protest at a Home Office plan to house up to 1,256 male asylum seekers at the nearby former MoD Bicester.The women in the village have since written to every female MP in Parliament but have only received a handful of replies.Joy Morrissey, the Shadow Women & Equalities Minister, claimed that Bridget Phillipson has refused to meet them.Ms Phillipson, who serves as Labour’s Women & Equalities Minister, had received letters from local women expressing concern over the proposal.Ms Morrisey told GB News’ Chopper’s Political Podcast about the debate set to take place in the House of Commons. Straight up refused.”Ms Morrisey said the villagers were “worried about living in their homes next to unknown male migrants”.She added: “Maybe it’s a thousand or so, maybe more than that. Kemi Badenoch recently visited Piddington | PA”No one knows where they’re from…. they don’t feel safe.”Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has since visited the village. Ms Morrissey said the Tories are now hoping to organise a debate in Parliament to raise awareness of the plight of the Piddington villagers and force ministers to engage with their concerns.The Conservatives are allowed to force debates in the Commons on 17 so-called “Opposition Days” in the Commons every year. Piddington women plan to take up self-defence classes | PAMs Morrissey said she was trying to organise one with Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp.Ms Morrissey said: “Chris [Philp] I are trying to help them. “We will hopefully have an opposition day debate on it as well. “Kemi would like to if we were granted an option because Kemi, when she went and met them, was so moved by what they were saying.Pressure is mounting on Bridget Phillipson to deal with the issue | PA”They’re just legitimate concerns that anyone would have.”A source close to Ms Phillipson told GB News: “Bridget’s been clear we should come down like a tonne of bricks on anyone who harms women and girls, whoever they are. “No decision has been taken on use of the military base and engagement with the local communities will be part of reaching that decision.”Watch Chopper’s Political Podcast every Friday from 6am on GB News.
