
Fifteen people have been taken to the hospital after a reported boat explosion in Miami this afternoon, according to local fire officials.The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said that more 25 units responded to a medical call regarding an incident near the Haulover Sandbar area.Due to the sheer number of patients and the department’s need for additional resources, MDFR were forced to upgrade the call to a Level 2 Mass Casualty Incident.Upon arrival, fire crews found multiple patients on scene, where a total of fifteen patients were then transported to a local hospital for further care.The scene is currently still active, and the patients’ conditions are unknown, according to reports from CBS News.Video at the scene captured a rescue helicopter landing in the area.Authorites said at 12.48pm local time (5.48pm BST)., more than 25 MDFR units, including Fireboat 21 and Ocean Rescue teams, along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, responded to the scene.The Miami Herald reported dispatch audio described multiple burn victims, some of which were in the water and rescued into fire-crew lifeboats, before being rushed to the nearby fuel docks to be taken to the hospital.An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.On Memorial Day last year, 11 people, including two children, were injured in a boat explosion in Florida’s Fort Lauderdale.On that occasion, some were badly burned to the point where they were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s burn center in Miami – where victims of today’s incident are also believed to have been taken.”Preliminary information indicates that a 39-foot Sea Ray with 15 people on board was traveling within the Intercoastal Waterway when an explosion occurred,” a spokesperson for Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said in the statement at the time of the 2025 incident.
