Wizz Air passengers can now order food and get entertainment on their phones as airline overhauls inflight experience

British holidaymakers flying with Wizz Air are about to get a much smoother experience in the skies, thanks to a brand new digital cabin system. The budget carrier has teamed up with tech partners Immfly and gateretail to create an integrated platform that puts ordering power directly into passengers’ hands.Rather than wait for food and beverages from the trolley, you can use your own phone to order snacks, drinks and duty-free products from your seat. The system brings together onboard shopping, connectivity and operational data all in one place, marking a significant step in Wizz Air’s digital ambitions.Customers can order on board from their own devices | WIZZ AIRIt works through Bluetooth technology that sends your order straight to the cabin crew, with no internet connection required.Wizz Air has rolled out this in-seat ordering across its entire fleet of more than 260 Airbus A320 and A321 jets after putting it through extensive testing.Holidaymakers must download the Wizz Air app before their flight, then they can browse everything from sandwiches to boutique products right from their seat.Orders ping through to crew members instantly, which the airline said could mean shorter wait times, although trolley service will still be available.Five UK-based aircraft are now part of a six-month trial that will test out some exciting connectivity features for passengers.Passengers will be able to send WhatsApp messages to friends and family while cruising above the clouds. There are also wireless entertainment purchases on offer, including films, TV shows, podcasts, music, games and kids’ content. The trial includes live payment authorisation for in-seat orders too, which should mean fewer declined transactions and a smoother checkout experience. The service is being trialled now | WIZZ AIRPassengers will also get access to real-time flight information and destination guides. Chief commercial officer at Wizz Air, Ian Malin, said: “This launch is about rethinking what the onboard experience looks like in a low-cost environment. We are investing in smart, scalable technology that gives customers more control and more choice, from ordering at their seat to staying connected in the air. “At the same time, it helps our crews deliver a faster, more seamless service. We are constantly exploring smarter ways to operate our fleet and deliver more for our customers, and this is a clear example of that approach in action.”President of Immfly, Fernando Guinea, added: “This partnership marks a major step forward in bringing the digital cabin to life. “With Immfly’s unified digital ecosystem at the core, combining retail, connectivity, and operational data we’re enabling Wizz Air to elevate every aspect of the onboard experience.”
