Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on new striker Viktor Gyokeres after his goalscoring return in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening. The Swedish star grabbed his fourth and fifth goals of the campaign last night, netting for the first time since September 13 for club and country. His brace came on another successful European evening at the Emirates Stadium for Arsenal, who put a stern Atletico Madrid to the sword in a 4-0 dismantling, courtesy of a brutal 14-minute second-half spell.Brazilian defender Gabriel opened the scoring for the hosts, courtesy of a trademark towering set-piece header. Gabriel Martinelli then doubled the lead with an inch-perfect finish into the far corner. Then, Gyokeres got in on the act. Initially, the striker reacted first after a loose shot from Eberechi Eze, managing to get the ball out of his feet and squeeze an effort into the bottom corner. The second came from more Gabriel set-piece brilliance, who put the ball back across the box with the 27-year-old tapping it home on the goal line.Despite enduring a nine-game barren run without a goal, Gyokeres has maintained his place in the starting line-up, and, according to Gunners boss Arteta, offers “unpredictability”, and much more than goals to the side.Speaking after the game, Arteta said on his £64million striker: “He deserved it because everything that we were seeing in terms of what he was bringing to the team and how much he was helping the team in many areas, apart from scoring goals in the last few weeks, there was no debate about that.Viktor Gyokeres grabbed a brace as Arsenal beat Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday | REUTERSVktor Gyokeres took his Arsenal goal tally to five goals in his opening 12 games | REUTERS”It was about keeping that belief in himself, that emotional state that he can enjoy and play freely. He has already surpassed that figure in the Premier League, but the Swede remained confident that “the goals would come”.”I am very pleased, of course.
