This week, Buckingham Palace announced the birth of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s new daughter, born at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. An adorable photograph of the new 15th in line to the throne accompanied the announcement, first posted on Instagram by Princess Eugenie on Tuesday evening.This coincided with another Royal(ish) event: Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex’s 45th birthday. Meghan posted images on Instagram of herself jumping into a swimming pool, holding birthday balloons.Meanwhile, it turns out Baby Brooksbank was actually born on Monday.So, why did Princess Eugenie and Buckingham Palace decide to announce the birth on Meghan’s birthday – a day later?The more likely answer, in my opinion, is Meghan’s birthday simply didn’t cross their minds.Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank welcomed a baby girl on Monday evening at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, making the newborn just the third member of the British Royal Family to arrive on foreign soil in over a hundred years | JACK BROOKSBANKIn fact, I suspect both Buckingham Palace and Princess Eugenie were thinking of far more important topics than a former working royal’s birthday social media posts. However, this hasn’t stopped online speculation regarding Princess Eugenie potentially “getting her own back” after Meghan allegedly upstaged her wedding – allegations which have never been proven.When Princess Eugenie and Jack wed in October 2018, Meghan wore an oversized dark blue Givenchy coat left loosely unbuttoned, immediately sparking speculation she was wearing a maternity coat and was pregnant.Just three days later, the official confirmation came that the Duchess of Sussex was, indeed, expecting her first child.Although never officially confirmed, there were strong rumours Princess Eugenie was upset that Meghan had inadvertently overshadowed her wedding day.Is the Palace really that petty to get their own back on Meghan?I doubt it very much, but social media is the Wild West, and it’s hard to stop a horse that has already bolted.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor speaks out after alleged balaclava incident
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has described the moment a man allegedly chased him wearing a balaclava during an incident near his Sandringham home.Alex Jenkinson, 39, is charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards the King’s brother in Norfolk on May 6.In parts of a witness statement read out during a hearing at Westminster Magistrate’s Court this week, Mr Mountbatten-Windsor claimed he was out walking his dogs when he spotted a car he assumed belonged to press photographers.He said a man “turned and faced me – he was wearing a balaclava face covering”.Andrew said the man then “realised who I was and began to sprint after my vehicle.”Jenkinson was detained under the Mental Health Act for around a month after the incident, and pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of blood while in custody on 6th May.He denies the other offences against him and is fighting the making of a Stalking Protection Order.Mr Mountbatten-Windsor is due to give evidence via videolink at the criminal trial, set for 21st December.Alex Jenkinson, 39, stands outside Westminster Magistrates’ Court with his dog, Indie, where he faces charges of using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour toward Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor | PA
Minor working royals hold the fort in King and Prince William’s absence
