James Middleton has opened up on the bond his parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, share with his son, Inigo.Following his return to social media after a Lenten hiatus, James shared an image of his mother, Carole, with his son, Inigo, on her lap, engrossed in Beatrix Potter’s “The Tale of Benjamin Bunny.”In a new interview, the Princess of Wales’s brother expressed his desire for his two-year-old to form lasting bonds with his grandparents.”I’m very fortunate to have my parents and that they’re able to help support [in caring for Inigo],” he said, noting that being a grandparent represents a distinct role from parenting.James Middleton has opened up on the bond between Carole Middleton and his son, Inigo. | GETTY”I have wonderful childhood memories of my grandparents and of activities that we used to do with them, and I hope that Inigo generates the same sort of memories with my parents.”The choice of Benjamin Bunny proves somewhat controversial for contemporary parents, given a scene where the young rabbit receives corporal punishment from his father with a switch.However, James firmly opposes sanitising such classic texts for modern sensibilities.”I think there’s a place for the past and I don’t believe in over-censoring, because it’s so important to learn where you come from,” he told Hello.Carole, Michael, Pippa and James Middleton attending King Charles’s Coronation in 2023. | GETTYWhile acknowledging that a toddler may not grasp every nuance, he stressed the value of preserving historical context in children’s literature.”It’s important not to overshelter that history, because you can’t change history. It helps us understand why the present is the present.”James’s own upbringing saw his parents take him and his sisters exploring crags and caves in the Lake District, adventures he likens to scenes from Enid Blyton’s Famous Five stories.He is now determined to replicate those experiences for his son.”We’re very much under way [in replicating that]. Some of the adventures that we go on with the dogs, Inigo comes with us; we’re already creating that,” he said.James and his wife find themselves marvelling at the rapid pace of their toddler’s development. | GETTYLooking ahead, James envisions Inigo eventually embarking on solo expeditions, accompanied by a canine companion.”I remember [how Blyton’s stories] played such a huge part in my imagination, in the activities and adventures that I would dream of as a youngster.”James and his wife find themselves marvelling at the rapid pace of their toddler’s development.”He’s Mr Independent now. Everything from shoes to getting dressed is: ‘No, no, I can do it.
