King Charles urged to delay Donald Trump State Visit by MPs: ‘It is unthinkable!’




MP’s have urged Sir Keir Starmer to step in and prevent King Charles from visiting Washington DC for his State Visit, following Donald Trump’s recent comments.The United States president hit out at the UK as a “once great ally” and said “we will remember” the lack of support in his campaign against the Islamic Republic.President Trump reiterated his criticism while speaking on Air Force One earlier this morning, telling reporters the US “didn’t need” the potential support of British aircraft carriers and that “we already won.”Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey urged: “Keir Starmer should advise the King that the state visit to the US scheduled for April should be called off. MPs are calling for the cancellation of King Charles’s State Visit to Washington D.C. next month | GETTY”At a time when Trump has launched an illegal war that is devastating the Middle East and pushing energy bills for British families, it’s clear this visit should not go ahead.”A state visit from our King would be seen as yet another huge diplomatic coup for President Trump, so it should not be given to someone who repeatedly insults and damages our country.”Labour backbencher Rachael Maskell, echoed Sir Ed’s thoughts, saying: “I think that visit should be put on hold at the moment to be quite honest. “I’m not sure what would be gained from his going to the US at this point, unless it was to make a direct intervention on this current conflict, because this should be the only thing on anyone’s agenda,” she told the Mirror.Green Party deputy leader Rachel Millward said: “Trump’s USA has become a rogue state, waging illegal wars abroad and unleashing terror on its streets through Trump’s ICE thugs.”It is unthinkable that the King should grace Trump with a visit at this point.”Sir Keir Starmer has been called on by MPs to advise the King against his visit | GETTY In Trump’s latest dressing down, he said: “The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East.”That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer – But we will remember.
